What Is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is a bacterial infection causing inflammation of the supporting tissues of the tooth. It is generally caused by poor oral hygiene habits, allowing the accumulation of bacteria between the teeth and at their junction with the gum.

The health of your gums is very important for your oral balance. In case of fragility, it no longer effectively protects your teeth and the bone in which they are anchored. Over time, your oral health deteriorates and can lead to the loss of one or more teeth.

Gum Disease Therapy

Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. Our dentists will work with you to create a treatment plan based on your particular case.

Once your periodontal treatment has been completed, our dental team will recommend that you have regular dental examinations and preventive therapy, usually four times a year.

Cosmetic Gum Therapy

If your gums rest too low or too high on your teeth, and you are unhappy with your smile, you may be a candidate for gum grafting surgery. This cosmetic dental procedure may be able to even out an uneven gum line and reduce the perceived length of the teeth to give you a smile you can be proud of.

Placing Dental Implants

Periodontics also includes the placement of dental implants beneath the gum line as part of the process to replace missing teeth. Once a dental implant is placed, the gums have healed, and a tooth replacement is added, this procedure can provide several oral health benefits.

Why Have Gum Grafting?

The gums protect our teeth and the bone in which they are anchored. It sometimes happens that this gum becomes fragile, retracts and causes disorders such as bleeding, dental hypersensitivity, loosening and then loss of one or more teeth. With a transplant, it is possible to reduce or even eliminate these symptoms. The graft strengthens the gum and stops its regression.

At Carrefour Dentaire de Montréal, our dentists will know how to treat your gum problems and will not hesitate to direct you if necessary to our periodontist Dr. Dib.
